Bankruptcy Credit Cards Credit Help Collections Debt Relief

How Collections Agencies Work

If you've ever been the target of a collection agency you'll understand when we say that it's not a pretty place. These are some of the most aggressive people working in the business world today. They have to be tough since they perform a service others have already failed at once. They collect money on bad overdue debts and bills.

Let's say Mary gets a store charge card from Company X. Mary charges up $1,000 worth of goods from Company X and then never makes a payment to Company X towards the balance on her account. After months of trying to collect this debt, Company X sells Mary's bad debt and others like hers to a Collections Agency. Company X says to the Collection Agency that if you pay us $500 for Mary's bad debt right now you can keep whatever you can collect from Mary who owes us $1,000.

It's now up to that collection agency to collect as much of what Mary owes Company X as possible. Any money they collect over $500 is profit for the collection agency. You can now see why they are so aggressive when collecting on a bad debt. The more they collect the more they make.

Collections is a tough place to ever get out of since these people don't usually quit once they latch onto their target. Avoid collections and keep your credit score clean.
